The story behind the build
A direct-booking site born from a very practical business problem.
The owner of Arbequina already knew websites because she was a website designer herself. The problem was time. She had an apartment business to run, Smoobu handling bookings, and Airbnb connected into that booking setup, but she did not have the time to turn all of that into the direct-booking website she wanted.
Airbnb gave the property reach, but the platform fees made direct booking more important. That changed the job completely. I was not just designing a prettier property page. I had to build enough trust around the apartment, amenities, guest experience and location for someone to feel comfortable checking dates and booking directly.
I built the experience in Wix around the way a guest actually decides. What does the apartment feel like? Who can stay there? What is nearby? What do previous guests say? How do I check availability? The result surprised the client. Even with her own website-design background, she was wowed by what I was able to create with Wix.
What I changed
- Led with the stay experience instead of technical booking language.
- Brought guest capacity, bedrooms, bathrooms and parking into the decision early.
- Used amenities, guest feedback and nearby locations to build confidence before the availability action.
- Kept the Smoobu-led booking journey connected to the website so visitors did not have to restart their decision elsewhere.
Where it ended
The result was a direct-booking site that felt far more considered than a basic Wix build. The client, despite being a website designer herself, was wowed by what I was able to create with Wix.
